"I had just been made redundant in September 2003, and years at a desk and eating the wrong things had taken its toll.

"I was very overweight obese in fact, suffered from snoring and sleep apnea, which by the way is very frightening for your partner when you stop breathing it can kill if you don’t start breathing again. I also suffered from arthritis from the age of 25 it had become really bad in the last 5 to 7 years in my neck, back & shoulders and had started to travel into my elbows and hands.

"I was limited to what I could do because of this; even a couple of hours in the garden or on the computer would end up with severe pain for 3 or 4 days. I was limited in lifting anything as my shoulders would not allow me and I had problems gripping anything with my hands. My neck was really bad I could be sat and just move my head slightly in any direction and I would hear a load cracking noise from my neck, which can be embarrassing because you are not sure if anyone hear it. I was also prone to chest infections and would have to go to the Doctor when I got one and get antibiotics to prevent it progressing to pleurisy which I have had three times in the past 4 years. All my conditions were the result of being overweight and poor nutrition and poor eating habits. I have not taken any drugs or medication in over six months.

They were not wrong. I was 227 lbs and had a BMI of 30.8 which is classed as obese. Hey what did I have to lose?

"I had tried other diets like the Cambridge which I lasted on two weeks did not like the taste of the products did not mix all that well, Plus I could not have food until I got to my target weight. Sorry I like my food. I then tried the Atkins which I stopped after a week thinking this cannot be healthy plus it was not getting good press at the time.
